Hello Good People,
My name is Ms. Tram Thi Phuong Bui and I was born in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), South Vietnam and emigrated to the US in 1975 as a political refugee at the end of the Vietnam War.
I grew up in Southern California and graduated from the University of California, Irvine with a BA degree in Social Ecology focus on Pre-Law. I earned my teaching credential with an endorsement in bilingual education from California State University of Long Beach. I have taught 2nd, 3rd grade for 1 year each in Riverside, CA. After I got married, we relocated to Phoenix, AZ and I taught 5 years of Jr. High English for Mesa Public Schools .
I started interpreting professionally in 2004 and have been a freelance Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI-Vietnamese) since 2013. I have also been the evaluator of Vietnamese language proficiency testing for Language Line Solutions, Reach Diversity, as well as the interpreting skills assessments for Maplewood College since 2016. Recently, I have been a trainer for the 50 hour Medical Interpreting Course with the non-profit organization, Americans Against Language Barriers since 2020.
I am a voting member and a moderator of the Special Interest Group (SIG), SE Asian Language, of the American Translators Association (ATA). I am also an active member of the Arizona Translators and Interpreters Association (ATI), and a member of the American Alliance for Professional Translators and Interpreters (AAPTI) I have held the position of VP of the Arizona Translators and Interpreters Association (ATI) for 1 year and Member-at-Large for 4 years.
Presently, I am the owner of Language Connectors, LLC. a thoroughly vetted language service business directory providing connections for professional linguists and discerning clients.

Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act (1964) is the legal basis for language access “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” Title VI requires recipients of Federal financial assistance to take reasonable steps to make their programs, services, and activities accessible by eligible persons with limited English proficiency (LEP). If English is not your primary language and you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, you may need an interpreter or document translation in order to have meaningful access to programs funded by the Government.”
